Next year marks Chevrolet and Hot Wheels 50th anniversary of working together to create some of the flashiest finger powered vehicles the toy industry has ever seen. To celebrate, General Motors has decided to reverse its role in that partnership as the inspiration for the toy maker’s cars.
This week Chevrolet announced the 2018 Camaro Hot Wheels 50th Anniversary Edition that pays homage to the toy brand’s unique designs. Featuring Hot Wheels’ official badging, the special edition hot rod serves as a perfect tribute to the company’s first release in 1968, an actual miniature Custom Camaro.
In addition to some sleek black striping, this “Crush” colored life-sized model includes impressive details like satin graphite ground effects, black tail lamps and orange brake calipers. Those sharp gray 20-inch forged-aluminum wheels aren’t too harsh on the eyes either.
“The Chevrolet Performance design studio is full of designers who were inspired by Hot Wheels,” said Tom Peters, director of Exterior Design for Chevrolet Performance Cars. “The Camaro Hot Wheels 50th Anniversary Edition captures that passion, turning childhood fantasy into reality.”
The Hot Wheels package will go on sale next year as a $4,995 option for the new Camaro’s 2LT and 2SS trim levels. It will also be available for the 2018 COPO Camaro, a limited edition model built for the drag strip of which only 69 will be produced.
The 2018 Chevrolet Camaro Hot Wheels 50th Anniversary Edition will debut at the SEMA Show next week in Las Vegas.
