Ford snagged “Breaking Bad” impresario Bryan Cranston for its latest “here’s our future” commercial. In the mix of flashing graphics, Steve Jobs-like presentations, Rangers jumping and old Mustang Bullitts driving, there’s a quick cut of what looks like an artist’s rendering of the forthcoming Mustang electric.
Our first thought was that this could be a preview of the Mustang-based ‘ute the company hinted at early this year, possibly called the Mach 1. Ford eventually walked that name back after public outcry, but the Mustang horse badge is unmistakable. It also doesn’t have a grille, which screams EV/hybrid. And it doesn’t look close enough to today’s Mustang to be a gentle update.
Ford, as expected, wouldn’t comment, but we do have a couple auto shows coming up. We’ll surely see the next GT500 first, but maybe Detroit? New York? Paris? Maybe next year.
